Que dia bom

5/6/2009
There´s a missionary out here on the mission with the first name of Courtney.
Ainda bem nos usamos our last names because i´m pretty sure that a name like
that won´t quite help you turn out to be´´A Boy Named Sue´´ I mean come on,
we´ve gotta draw the line somewhere

But how are al of you, and your names?
This week i spent an intire afternoon trying to explain the verbo ´´get´´ to
my comp and another member, becuase as they told me and as we all discovered
juntos, the word get can be used for everything....and yet, no...
Was a little disapointed to see that i recieved 10% less than usual in the
bank this month because of the economy la.
But its ok because seeing the word ´´Ridiculas´´ in Mrs Kia´s letter made my
life, and was easily one of the high points of my week along with looking at
all the great pics of everyone (pssst, keep um coming)
The ultimant low of the week came from horrible redults and scores in the
world of futebol. Bota Fogo lost the Copa do Rio after coming ´´ridiculasly´´
close (even forcing 2 extra games) COrithians also one and i just wanted to
cry.
But once again i was brought back to life by just looking down at the sweet
UMKC pen i was using and thinking about all my friends who are so
intelegentissimo, você nem sabe.
Fun Fact: Meu companiero no sabe como fazer tapioca de jeito nenhum.
Also i must say i´m getting some pretty sick are of all the unnecissary speed
bumps in EstÂncia, and i´m sure mom would love to know that the word for helmet
here basically translates to Cabelo, só.
Well anyways i just had the greatest p-day of my life (hopefully my comp is
able to send the pics) and looking into the missionaries, ou seja, us
missionaries have organized a ´´Night of Cinama´´ here at the capela tonight
for all members, recent converts, and investigators. The intire thing should
be massa. Also this sabado after the sister´s baptism we´ll have an
Intergretion night, to do exactly that. Reading E Olson´s email i can
testify i know excatly how he feels at sometime here. Its odd to see things
roll up hill instead of down hill like i´m use too, but it happens. You ask
someone to do something and they say they don´t have the keys to preform that
ou seja the power and so they tell you to pass it to the person above them...
and endless circle. But these activities should be great and personally i´m
really excited to see if i can explain the human knot game in português (i
hope i never stop relieving COPE activities, maybe i´ll just becvome coach
Frank)
I´m sorry me and my comp are just too cool...i mean what?
Anyways it´s ridiculas how golden people show such attributes before you
even walk in there door to teach them. I also have to thank thoser same
people for opening my eyes to so many small miricals this week. The first
being a much older lady who washes clothes for a resturuant for a living.
She had pretty much everything to wash on sunday because i guess thats like
the one day the place is closed and so the dump all the clothes her way, but
we told her if she just took a little l]time out of her day for church the
Lord would bless her. Well we stopped by her house that day and she wasn´t
around, darn. Later my comp left with a member to try and find her. Turned
out she had gone all by herself and we´d just misted her because we have
priesthood first and naturauly she doesn´t. Em fim, she was able to get
everything done without any trouble. The other came from one of the coolest
people i´ve ever met named Hugo (just look at the name) who lives 45km away
from our city but has come to church both aqui and numa outra ciudade quase 7
vezes já. But people, members, nevered intruduced him to the elders. Luckly
that wasn´t the case this week and we were able to teach him the first lesson
after church and talk a little. Turns out he´s pretty desperate for a job.
Yesterday we traveled the 45km to visit him and literally as we walked in the
door his phone rang. He joy that was just bursting from every part of his
body was more than over whelming, and i loved it. As we started he told us
how he was reading the BOM but wanted to know how he could read and better
understand it, to be able to find better answers and understanding. As we
continued, teach and faith and prayers, it became a little ´´ridiculas´´
when i asked him if he was understanding the scriptures we wére reading and
having him responed with his own comparision to how he had just recieved that
job from such faith. Its people like that who just humble you, and you lvoe
every moment of it. Never think you don´t have anything to learn from someone.
As him gave the closing prayer i can bear witness that the Spirit bore
testimony of everything not just to him but to everyone in that room.
As we are talking about faith, i must mention that my thoughts were actually
turned to this subject earlier this week as i read Danny Freiberger's excellent
discourse on essential gospel principles such as the Light of Christ (which
we all have), Faith, and the Atonement of Christ.
As i read about faith it seemed as though he was almost quoting Alma 32:21
in talking about faith being something unproven and intangible that we continue
to acredit out of the loving knowledge we believe in.
But the greatest thoughts, and most important be far came from touching on
the Atonement of Christ. It is of no dumbt in my mind that John 3:16 is one
of the most moving scriptures we have today. Do we all recognise the infinent
wonder this sacrafice held, to be able to repent each day as we strive to
closen ourselves with the Savior. Elder Jeffery R Holland said,

´´To the thoughtful follower of Christ, it is a matter of surpassing wonder
that the voluntary and merciful sacrifice of a single being could satisfy the
infinite and eternal demands of justice; atone for every human misdeed; bear
every mortal infirmity; feel every personal heartache, sorrow, and loss. But
I testify that is exactly what Christ did for every one of us. I bear solemn
witness that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the compassionate foundation
and central fact in God’s eternal plan for our salvation and our happiness...
Is it any wonder that Christ, the greatest of all, partook of the bitter cup
and did not shrink here, that we might not suffer if we would repent and come
unto Him? ´´ (see, no, Please See Special Witness of Christ)

In continuing my study of this topic i came upon Alma 11:39-the end, which
reluctantly already retained markings from my scripture pencil. The vesres
there soundly refect those word of John 3:16, residading the love of Christ
and His Father (our Eternal Father) through out each phrase. I pray each one
of you will take time to read those pasages this semana and see the love as
it echos throughout each of your lives individually.
Without thought i know God lives, and loves each one of us. Don´t ever let
a moment pass you by to show that love through service to your fellow men or
share such a great message, as this one, with them.

D+C 128:22,
E Neuberger

PS, so about pday today, we were goign to go to the praia but the president
never called us back so we resorted to our back up plan: My first drive into
Estância i caught a glimps of an abandond church up on a hill top about 30mins
out of the city. Having sense chared the idea of hiking up there, its long
been on our list of thingsa to do here. Well there´s not time like today
right? Turned out to be an absolute blast (specially from only 8 R$/the bus
fair). Not only did i get to see a snake, lizard, and sweet grasshppers, i
saw the bestest tranchala i´ve ever seen in my life, just enormous. We took
a ton of fotos, scared a bunch of cattle and were even able to hitch a rise
on the back of a flat bed beer truck on the way back, yes aWESOME.
